Honda launched a new mid-size SUV for the Japanese market in 2007 named the Crossroad. It was not the first time they used this nameplate as in the 90’s Honda was selling re-badged Land Rover Discovery’s as Honda Crossroad in Japan. The concept was similar, a 7-seater though looking SUV.
The timeless exterior design is matched with a creative interior design that could be had in a light or dark color depending on the grade. The 7 seat layout allowed for a flexible configuration to load the car depending on the situation. Folding all the rear seats down ensures a huge luggage compartment.
For the drivetrain, various options were available. Two engines, a 1.8 liter with 140 horsepower and a 2.0 liter with 150 horsepower. Both were connected to a 5-speed automatic transmission. And both could be had with front wheel drive or full-time four wheel drive. The latter coming with a Hill-start assist function.
The base grade called L comes with black front and rear bumper, wheel arches and side steps and steel wheels. The interior is also mainly black. A step up is the X grade, which has the black exterior parts painted in in the body color, some alloy wheels and a light interior. The highest grade is the Xi which had additional comfort and safety features such as cruise control.
The sales target was to sell 3000 units per month but after a short life span of only 3 and a half years the production stopped and the model was discontinued in 2010. The unique design and limited sales volume makes that this vehicle keeps its value surprisingly well on the second hand car market.
