In central Gifu there is a lot of rural and mountainous area. A big city in the midst of this is Takayama. Takayama has a long lasting history and is a step back in time compared to modern cities. A lot of old temples, historic buildings and cozy streets provide a unique atmosphere as can only be found in Japan.
