The northern part of mainland Japan, Tohoku, is known for its cold winters and many snow. This has some impact on the road quality which is of a different quality than other parts of Japan like Kanto or the Tokai area. Still, there are a lot of good driving roads in Tohoku as there is plenty of nature with Skyline roads, lake drives and mountain passes.
